Guys
In todays down turn for small/mid size bsuiness the capital investment is huge concern on the software side. As we are getting more niche application of the shelf apart from the core ERP, for transportation, warehouse, Data Analytics. So most of them are looking at the SaaS model. The model is good and it will work fine provider you know what we need to ask and look for the solution.
1. Dynamic Billing -the SaaS bill should follow your usage fluctations. Never should agree to "software maintenance fees" or to pre-established "user licenses" because it defeats one of the primary goals of switching to SaaS model.
2.Security -uses SSL, data centers have 24/7 physical secuirty, mutiple customer are housed on same server- are they logically/physically seperated to ensure data is not viewed by unauthorized eyes
3.100 % Web Based - runs on all browers not just on IE
4.Experience - alteast should have 3-5 exp in hosting SaaS model (do not go to early adopter to avoid first issues)
5.Upgrades - receive automated upgrades
6. Integration - Is SaaS solution able to integrate with your existing software/ERP? It should be able to transfer data in and out of the software/ERP
7.Backup -nightly backup at onsite, weekly backups at offsite, restoring large data process flow in case of emergency
8.Data Center - who is hosting the solution, in house or 3rd party provider (if what is agreement and get access to the same)
9.Scalability - SaaS vendor should be able to grow as you grow. ask for the growth plans
10. Monitoring - what is the monitoring software used, ping tests, mechanisms, etc...
