Why all enlightened and educated should support Congress Party now?

I have heard a question from Mr.Arnab Goswami of Times Now when Mamatha Benerjee led Trinamool Congress has defeated Communists in West Bengal. The question is whether Mamatha will give priority to national interest over politics. The question was posed in light of her stand on Centre's move to curb moist violence. As it appeared to me, Trinamool Congress was opposing tough stand on moists considering the vote bank.  Then, I was thinking so deeply about national interest and the work being done by Congress party led UPA government at the Centre.

Majority of the electorate in this country may not be able to follow all the political developments and may not understand as to what is good for the country or what is not? Many electorates in this country not even know about RTI and its implications. Many may not be able to understand the division of powers between the Centre and the State.

Of course, with the overall development, the percentage of enlightened and education is increased considerably now. World is looking at India and even when the European Markets are expected show poor performance, our Prime Minister has maintained that India will sustain an 8.5 % percent growth this year.

All patriots and enlightened citizen in this country wants change in politics and they vote for better governance than petty politics. Many believed that change is not possible in politics in India. But, now, with so much emphasis on governance, reforms and change by the Congress Party guided by Smt.Sonia Gandhi, many believe that we can see change very soon in India. Than ever before, there was so much discussion on young taking the lead and it was constantly referred by Shri Rahul Gandhi and Dr.Manmohan Singh even recently.

Change in India comes when active, intelligent and devoted people enter into politics and take the lead. Congress Party believes in this. Congress had promoted Dr.Manmohan Singh to take the lead and we have intelligent and able Cabinet Ministers. The role played by Smt.Sonia Gandhi in changing this country is really laudable. We have an excellent set-up called National Advisory Council at the Center and this Advisory Council is responsible for land mark legislation like RTI.

The Congress Party and the UPA government had to face a big challenge in the recent past in facing the corruption and in tackling the price rice. When it comes to price rice, our Prime Minister had committed to bring inflation down and with the able leadership and guidance; the Government will certainly be able to bring the inflation down and under control. But, when it comes to corruption, the Congress Party had to face stiff questions with the actions of their coalition partners. Congress Party has taken immediate and considered action against Shri Shari Tharoor and many understands as to why the Congress Party could not respond in the same way with other people belonging to other coalition partners. When I see the discussions being conducted by popular National Channels in India like Times Now and NDTV, I found one interesting thing. Many intelligent participants in the debate could not attack the top leadership of the Congress and the Government and it can be attributed to the fact that there is nothing to criticize the top leadership of Congress Party as such. Congress Party does not resort to petty politics now and they are focusing on reforms and the problems in the country. The Government has mooted for a legislation to bring transparency in public functioning, mooted for very important educational reforms, ensured education to all citizens of this country to the extent possible, avoided petty politics, trying to bring lot of young talent to take the lead and tried its best to bring-down the rate of corruption.

The Congress Party had to strike a balance between National interest and politics in order to ensure that it remains in power for the betterment of the people and the country. The situation in this country is that the majority of the people lack understanding at the complications and the developments. Majority are misguided by some political parties for political gains. The Congress Party now has to face these political parties who plays only politics and at the same time, should give proper importance to the National Interest. The Congress Party could strike a good balance in this regard. All credit goes to Smt.Sonia Gandhi and admittedly she is one of the admirable and powerful leaders India has seen so far.

It is true that we need to go still a along way if we want to compete with the developed countries. The main focus now is on leadership and guidance of Smt.Sonia Gandhi and the leadership of Shri Rahul Gandhi. If the congress is in the hands of inefficient people, then, we need not support congress at all and people have a right to choose what is best for them. But, situation now is that we do have a golden opportunity to press for needed overall reforms in India and especially change in politics. I believe that many educated and enlightened agree with the fact that Smt.Sonia Gandhi and Shri Rahul Gandhi are not for power alone and they are be given power for the betterment of the this country.

A lot can be said on the performance of Congress Party and the UPA government under the leadership of Smt.Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. To bring change and to see India truly developed, it is very important to ensure that the Congress gets complete majority at the Centre and it’s a difficult thing where coalition politics have become a reality.

Thus, I feel that the enlightened and educated should also discharge their responsibility towards the society and the future generation by supporting Congress Party in one way or other and I believe that it is so important for India now.
