News
flashes say that, After weeks of speculation, Sourav Ganguly has been
replaced by New Zealand's Brendon McCullum as captain of the Kolkata
Knight Riders team for the second Indian Premier League starting in
Cape Town on Saturday. KKR's captaincy was a topic of much speculation
after its Australian coach-cum-director John Buchanan came up with the
idea of having multiple captains. The Knight Riders management on
Friday put an end to all speculations by deciding to name McCullum as
the new skipper, team sources said. Buchanan had earlier proposed
rotating the captaincy among Ganguly, McCullum, Chris Gayle and Lakshmi
Ratan Shukla, which created quite a furore. Ganguly openly opposed the
idea saying, "Tomorrow I can ask for four different coaches". Team
owner, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan felt the proposal should be given
a chance and said he would rather try and fail. McCullum, the
swashbuckling New Zealand wicket-keeper batsman, was the front runner
to get the job. Knight Riders' captaincy was a topic of much
speculation after its
Australian coach-cum-director John Buchanan came up with the idea of
having multiple captains.
But the Kolkata out fit management on Friday ended the controversy
by naming the McCullum, who had given a rousing start to IPL last year
with a breathtaking 156 against Bangalore Royal Challengers in the
opening match, as the new skipper. Interestingly, Ganguly became the third player to have lost
captaincy this season after Deccan Chargers' VVS Laxman and Royal
Challengers' Rahul Dravid.
There can be many issues which gave rise to this decision:
- It is still not clear whether McCullum will captain the Knight Riders for the entire season or if he is part of Buchanan's multiple captaincy idea.
- Ganguly was not satisfied with the team from the begining as he wanted more batsmen and the management was keen on ballers.
- SRK had asked him to talk to the CM of Kolkata about the entertainment tax paid at Eden Garden but Ganguly still hasn't obliged for the same,
- The problems magnified when coach John Buchanan was given more powers than the captain himself. To add fuel to the fire, Shah Rukh announced that the coach will take all the decisions for the team next year onwards, upsetting Ganguly in the bargain.
And there might be many more conflicts which has given rise to such a decision. Whatever may be the outcome, the issue needs to be resolved quickly and decisively.

Why!! Test cricket is the best form of cricket and that tests the real power of a player. We should not get lost in glamor and forget the roots should we?? |
BJP too is forcing him to resign but he is seeking legal options to stay in. No one wants him, everyone knows how corrupt he is still he is not willing to leave! what should this attitude be called? Do you think he will resign at will ? |
