Why we don’t have Global brands-Prt II

 When we conceived our nation post independence our founding fathers, directed us to “industrialize or perish”. When doing so they created the ‘conditions’ for the failure of such endeavors.  They were,

1)      Labor standards were forfeited. Laborers are the back bone of every industry. They are the ones who create the ‘value’ for the products. In Adam Smiths words the laborers should be supplied their quota of liquor and meat which also means their living standards. The reason is very visible, it is they who add value to the product that is being manufactured and if they don’t have life left in them this  value generation is tampered. After a hard days work of creating and imparting value to product they cannot supplant their spirit unless they drink and that too good drinks not gibbons.

2)      Infrastructure for commerce. Infrastructure necessary condition for commerce to be efficiently managed was forfeited. Logistics play a great role in the formation of markets. It is only when a vendor can truck goods and services, efficiently, he will be able to perform his work efficiently and competitively creating the functionality of his work. Our roads and bridges were below standard welfare and efficiency and the quality of these products and services were traded of for profits . So marketing as a science remains in text books only and not as a functional division of economy and business. No one can supply products at the proper place they want at the proper time they want at the proper price expected in ones purchasing power and the quality of product is traded off for the above reason 1.

3)      Because of the above 2 reasons one has to infer that the standard of performance of Agents of commerce were unknown to our founding fathers and laws and regulations were never created to oversee commerce.

4)      This created bad habits among Agents the hub on which commerce works and reduced consumers to just adapt and be neurotic so that the market never formed efficiently.

Unless these are taken into consideration and rectified we probably will never see a global brand coming from our environment.
