Last week the Buzz is all about the missing Chopper in which the Andhra CM YSR was heading towards Chittor from Hyderabad. Though the monsoon was not right to fly, he opted to fly it seems. My only concern was it took around 24 hrs to identify the debris of the crashed chopper even though we are proudly saying out that we are heading in the communication and technology front. Thanks to the SMS which has been sent which acts as a helper to identify the exact spot. One thing which amazes me was still we are sitting back using the SMS to identify a crashed chopper, aren't we ashamed of the same. We are sending satellites to moon, having thousand satellites monitoring us round the clock, still we are not able to identify a chopper. Leave the fact that the chopper has been crashed in a thick vegetation, dense forest, heavy rains, muddy and slippery rocks etc. etc... Apart from the all the reason given for 24 hrs, i am puzzled that we dont have a satellite phone in a chopper in which CM is flying. While viewing the complete coverage on various news channels, i was thinking of only one thing which went wrong is the communication gap. Next, having so much of technologies, i really can't understand the time taken for getting in to the debris. This clearly shows that we are not using the technology which are available to us. We are making money out of the technology and not using the same for our own purpose. Let us assume, if we are going with the wireless sensor networks, this operation would have been a very simple one. The sensor gateway or the sensor administration would have located the place with in few hrs. I am introducing this Wireless Sensor Networks here because it has been used by most of the western countries in order to track these kind of things. Way back if people have still thought of the Tsunami which hit the eastern coast of India, even that could have been tracked using the Wireless Sensor Networks. Some time back the Air France aircraft had gone missing while flying out from Brazil. Those people used wireless sensor networks to identify the spot. I agree that also took a long time, because thats a heavy sea area and it is not very easy to get the signal from sea as we can get easily from the land. So guys, I would sincerely recommend govt to make use of the wireless senor network, which will really reduce the cost and the manual labor required for the search operations of these kind. Also, people could have been early warned about the natural disasters, like Tsunami, Cyclone etc...
