In the last few years, the percentage of active women gamers touched around 50 percent from near to zero percent. Today, globally 45 percent of active gamers are female, and even more women own PSPs than men, with a figure of 52 percent.

According to Nielsen's 2010 fact sheet for the media industry, the most played console, in terms of minutes of gaming time, is apparently the Xbox 360, which occupied 23 percent of total usage time. The PS2 followed it with a share of 20 percent, and the Wii was third with 19 percent.

Even in automobile industry, women make more automobile purchasing decisions than men. In Canada, Market Researcher Maritz Canada reports that women influence some 66 percent of all buying decisions, including vehicle purchases.

During the last decade, significant inroads have been made into the industry by the likes of Bobbie Gaunt, Former President and CEO of Ford Motor of Canada and Linda Hasenfratz, CEO of Linamar, an auto parts manufacturer based in Ontario.

In order for any industry to change, the percentage of women employed in the industry has to increase. Without change happening across the board, the culture of the industry is not going to change.
