Ant & Grasshopper* OLD VERSION *

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant is a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the Ant is warm and well fed. The Grasshopper has no food or shelter so he dies out in the cold. *

*Ant & Grasshopper* Modern Version*

The Ant works hard in the withering heat all summer building its house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The Grasshopper thinks the Ant ' s a fool and laughs & dances & plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering Grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the Ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

*NDTV, BBC, CNN * show up to provide pictures of the shivering Grasshopper next to a video of the Ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.

The World stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be that this poor Grasshopper allowed suffering so? *

Arundhati Roy ** *stages a demonstration in front of the Ant ' s house . *

Medha Patkar** *goes on a fast along with other Grasshoppers demanding that Grasshoppers be relocated to warmer climates during winter.*

Amnesty International and Koffi Annan *criticizes the Indian Government for not upholding the fundamental rights of the Grasshopper.

The *Internet* is flooded with online petitions seeking support to the Grasshopper (many promising Heaven and Everlasting Peace for prompt support as against the wrath of God for non-compliance) . *

Opposition MPs *stage a walkout. Left parties call for "Bharat Bandh" in West Bengal and Kerala demanding a Judicial Enquiry.

CPM in Kerala immediately passes a law preventing Ants from working hard in the heat so as to bring about equality of poverty among Ants and Grasshoppers. *

Lalu Prasad *allocates one free coach to Grasshoppers on all Indian Railway Trains, aptly named as the ' Grasshopper Rath '.

Finally, the Judicial Committee drafts the ' *Prevention of Terrorism Against Grasshoppers Act ' *[POTAGA], with effect from the beginning of the winter.*

Arjun Singh *makes '*Special Reservation *' for Grasshoppers in Educational Institutions & in Government Services.

The Ant; fined for failing to comply with POTAGA and having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes; its home is confiscated by the Government and handed over to the Grasshopper in a ceremony covered by NDTV.

Arundhati Roy calls it ' *A Triumph of Justice* ' .

Lalu calls it '*Socialistic Justice *' .

CPM calls it the ' *Revolutionary Resurgence of the Downtrodden *'

Koffi Annan invites the Grasshopper to address the *UN General Assembly*.

*Many years later*

The Ant has since migrated to the US and set up a multi-billion dollar company in * Silicon Valley *.

100s of Grasshoppers still die of starvation despite reservation somewhere in India ...because of loosing lot of hard working Ants and feeding the Grasshoppers, * India is still a developing country!

Nice topic by Mr. Nair and analysis by Mr. Sharma. The truth is always one and the question is how far we are from the truth. Actually social exploitation due to caste system and reservation policy to bring equality, both are away from true policy of nation development. A good citizen should fight for both, but actually not! He wants to take the advantage of social status as well as no facilities for the untouchable that is created artificially by this society. Let us make clear in our mind that all human beings are equal and act accordingly which is the basic truth of life and than it is appropriate to fight for equal justice for all.

Great one.

The moral of the stroy that in india we have 50% grasshoppers and few ants. As more or less we have more than 50% reservation every where if sum all SC,ST,OBC and so on. Unfortunate part of the story is that now grasshoppers are in such a position that every election, in one form or other, number of ants are reducing and grasshoppers are increasing.

Many of us will argue like a politician about social jutice and equality and so on. But we are eating our nation by such logics. equality for all should be only one solution and we cant make social justice in last 60 years (almost a complete generation), we will not bring it by reservation and all these things.

By providing reservation in professional education, we are not uplifting the so called low class people but we are downgrading the quality of education. And providing the benefit of reservation in promotions is completly beyond my understanding. By this state / government is promoting the culture of non performing if u blessed with garss hopper category.

May be u will believe or not, these people even dont secure minimum passing marks to get admission, but to fulfil quota they will get admission, enjoy the scholarship and get the job like they are son in law of government. But they are lucky to become grasshopper and born in india.

Again i will say that equality for all without any categaorisation is the only and only one solution that will lead the nation and all of us in right direction.

Excellent satire on today's politics of India. Its a great fact that media just create news to make itself attractive,Politicians search and create such situations like grasshopper to get their position well, poor and illiterate people cant understand the situation and become sympathetic to grasshopper .
Thanks to Prashant to write such nice article which reflects the main basic cause of recession too.
Hard work and sincerity have got no value in this period so recession has been created .

Reservation issues are still seen in INDIA.
Well, I think there shouldn't be any reservation in INDIA. Everyone should be treat in a similar manner. Work hard and earn a name for yourself and don't fight with the government to give reservation for so and so...

Humm ... nice one and thought provoking ...we just work hard and only for our self.
All the leaders listed above are not the ones straight from heaves they are one of us only and are really smart ruling us hard working ANTS !!! Here is some thoughts from an article SWAMINOMICS-TOI below ...

An IQ of 130-135, a very high score, and that only 3% of people had higher intelligence.
But consider this. India has a population of 1.1 billion, of which the workforce is 400 million. Three per cent of 400 million is 12 million people. So, in a truly meritorious society, 12 million people should have a higher position in the workforce.

That is not the case. India has at most two million top managers and professionals. Where, then, are the 12 million super-intelligent people? Many are labourers or street hawkers.

The canteen boy who brings me tea may be more intelligent than me, and so too may be the man shining shoes on the roadside. But they were born in the wrong family, and never had access to good education or economic opportunities. So they remain on the fringes of society.

Meanwhile, lesser beings like us dominate society, on the spurious claim that we are the most meritorious. What gall! We got good marks because we had the most educated parents, the best books, and went to the best schools and colleges.

But others far more meritorious are rotting without education or opportunity in the slums and villages of India. In a fair and just society, the top two million or so positions would be occupied by people with an IQ of over 135. Lesser folk like me (and most striking doctors) would be just clerks or labourers.
