the orthodox / secular values are on the decline and the lust fulfillment avenues are at a large.
one super mart can eat into 10 small retailers and cannot make viability in turnover and profits resulting in cut in workers. 
the USP contributes to a large extent to initiate te purchase. the brand value too is important. other factors like consumer offers and posaitioning of competitive brands are vital too.
the name is enough. the customers take for granted the quality, utility and genuine characteristics. dropping brands is more on a long term strategy while protecting the brand equity.
