PREPARATION FOR SCIENCE Richard Bartlett Gregg (1885-1974) was an American social philosopher said to be 'the first American to develop a substantial theory of nonviolent resistance' and an influence on the thinking of Martin Luther King, Jr., Aldous Huxley, civil-rights theorist Bayard Rustin, and pacifist and socialist reformer Jessie Wallace Hughan. Gregg travelled to India in the 1920s to learn about the culture and to seek out Gandhi ji. His publications include Gandhiji's Satyagraha or non-violent resistance , published in 1930, and The Power of Non-Violence , from 1934. For two years after arrival in India, Gregg taught activity based science to children in Stoke's School at K...

New study finds that short-term memory is improved 20% by walking in nature, or even just by looking at an image of a natural scene. The results showed that people's performance on the test improved by almost 20% after wandering amongst the trees. By comparison those subjected to a busy street did not reliably improve on the test. In the second study participants weren't even allowed to leave the lab but instead some stared at pictures of natural scenes while others looked at urban environments. The improvements weren't quite as impressive as the first study, but, once again, the trees and fields beat the roads and lampposts. These results replicated a previous study by Berto (2005) who fou...

When we wish someone happy birthday we say have a blast. Perhaps we wont like to say this from now. It is still not clear that who is reaponsible for the terror attacks. One possibility that is seen is that it can be the work of Lashkar-e-toiba (LeT) . The only gunman of this group Kasab was held by mumbai police. July 13 is said to 24th birthday of this gunman. Can you believe he is just 24 year old, an age when people think of a settled life and wonderful career. Kasab, under CCTV camera surveillance, is guarded by at least 50 commandos. He was found guilty of 80 offences, including waging war against the nation, which is punishable with the death penalty. But still he is alive which is s...

Almost 6 atheletes have been tested positive for dope. This happened under Ukranian coach Yuri Ogorobonik. This incident is very unfortunate. We all expect coaches to teach ethics before the sport and do not expect a sports person to indulge in any of such practices. The shining names have now lost hopes of ever appearing in olympics too.. The names include Ashiwini, Mandeep and Sini .. the members of the famed women's 4x400 metres relay team that won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games last year. Ashiwini also won the gold in the 400 metres hurdles at the Asian Games.. Quarter-milers Ashwini Akkunji, Mandeep Kaur, Sini Jose, Juana Murmu, Priyanka Pawar, Tiana Mary ...

AMERICA'S TRILLIONAIRE'S - SO WEALTHY, THEIR FULL REAL WEALTH IS NEAR ON IMPOSSIBLE TO ACCURATELY MEASURE. Ask anyone if they can guess who is the wealthiest person in the world and the odds are the first name you will hear is Bill Gates o r Sam Walton's children. Or, perhaps it will be some other name that appears annually on the Forbes or Fortune list of America's richest families—names like Larry Page or Sergy Brin from Google, or Amazon.com's founder Jeff Bezos, or Yahoo's founders, Dave Filo and Jerry Yang since these are the 'blue chips' of the cyberworld. Every now and then, because you may have heard the names growing up, someone will mention names like Rockefeller or Rothschild or ...

Do our leaders and Institutions do a ‘Reality Check’ in erecting policies and taking decisions? The other day I was reading a Professor Sigmund Freudes book on Psychoanalysis. He quotes a famous author, which states, “ humanity progresses on reality principle, where the reality is ‘necessity’, which made generations to cut down trees and ravage forests for that one thing humans all live to fulfil ‘necessity’. This means everything one does one has no choice other than make a ‘reality check’ that concurs with progress of the last 5000 years to continue progress for humans. I also read in his work, that human instincts can be classified as ‘libido’ and ‘ego’. Societies gets ‘civilized’ to jus...
