April 2005 - Present Designation: Joined as Graduate engineering trainee in 2005 and currently holding Strategic position of Engineer-New Product development (Management cadre) Role: Product development manager Reporting to: General Manager-Mfg and Operations. Key Result Area: Product Planning and management: Assist Sr. management in new Product planning; establishing strategic roadmap for introduction of new products (Mechanical transmission products) for Industrial, automotive, construction equipment, power sector clients. Evangelizing new products within the company (from Concept to introduction, sales) from new business and corporate Strategy perspective. Benchmarking and Competitor product data analysis, Establishing Product Requirement Data (PRD) based on Voice of Customer, MRD, sales forecast, regional sales data, along with marketing. Assist business analysis group in developing new business case with primary stage product cost estimation. Provide direct technical support to product marketing through Product layout and General arrangement drawings, client, Dealer meetings, onsite visits. Training internal stakeholders, Sales team on new products. Develop Product marketing and promotional literature for new products, launch material. R and D Product development and Project management: New product development: Establishing Project activity planning (Gantt chart), project quality planning through Control plans (APQP) using Ms Project 2003, MS Excel 2007. Cross functional team management for new projects. Actual product development project cost monitoring against budgeted cost, Capex for new product development. Extensive work with product design to ensure generation of Part, assembly mfg drawings, specifications. Project Risk mitigation through failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA,Process FMEA) ERP Support, developing and maintaining Bill of Material in SAP. Assist in proto type building through shop floor support; pilot batch performance testing. Maintain product data and documentation at various phases of planning, development and launch. Project scope management and timely escalation of changes. Preparation of project review calendar, participation in design review. Key Projects managed: Currently handling transmission development program for Volvo, Sweden for Automotive application. Product planning and introduction of Transmission products such as Fluid Clutches, Helical gearbox, Power Take Offs for International client M/s M tech Transmissions, Sweden, as Product Manager since August 2009. Torque Converter and Clutch development, mfg and launch program for Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML Ltd) Bangalore as Product development Engineer. Project Worth: Rs.6million, during 2008-09. Hydrodynamic retarder development program for DRDO, CVRDE Chennai during 2006-2008, as Project lead Engineer. Project Net Worth: Rs.5.5million Introduction of new range of Helical geared motors, gearboxes for inclined conveyors 2006-2007 as Project lead engineer. Strong Exposure in: Product Marketing (B2B), business analysis of product development project. Implementing Lean mfg practices like KAIZEN, 5S implementation, Value stream mapping. Six Sigma- DMAIC. Project management tools like development of new business case, product proposal form, Project charter, WBS. Hands on work experience on advanced CAD programs like CATIA V5-R12, AutoCAD 2010. Work Achievments: Recognition for outstanding contribution in transmission development for CVRDE-DRDO, tank application. Appreciation from Sr. Management for identifying, new business opportunities with brief product market study report which helped reduce cost and created possibility of entire new business. Played key role in developing and commercializing 8 different products in a work span of last 5 years. Lead variety reduction and Product standardization program which helped reduce cost by 8% of mfg cost through VA/VE in year 2008-09 and further by 3% in year 2009-10. Part of corporate New Product development strategy team. Was promoted to Responsible project leader position from Graduate engineering trainee and from Project lead to Engineer-New products.
