I am biased but I feel, only a person who is from rural india or has great affinity to rural india, can understand and work to better the envoirnment and optimize utility. when you go out or even if you are urbanized then the lack of ethnic knowledge will alienate you of course you would still be productive because we are so obessed with the white man and his parameters.
