It will still be a dream becuase logically speaking till the govt. takes action against the various cartels - metal, sand, cement etc., prices are not going to come down. Also the land ceiling act and other such building related acts have to be changed as they are still archaic portions that we follow from our british legacy.

Land in itself is expensive only because the government does not act against land hoarders. There should be a minimum time frame specified for owners of lands to start construction otherwise thye would buy when the prices are very low and then start building only when the cost goes up, Our Real Estate industry itself has to be regulated and a new set of laws brought in keeping in tune with modern needs.

Affordable housing is a dream which can become real, if it is worked out properly. Housing to middle & lower middle class has always been affordable to middle class after independence and the people have taken advantage of that.

It is definitely more an affordable reality now than it has been.

As of now an ordianry citizen of India is not in a position to buy a house since it is simply not affordable. The minimum cost per sq.feet is around Rs 2500 to 3000 per sq feet hence it is not affordable.

Yes if govt take initiative then probably the house for a common man will be a reality it will not be a dream any more. Since the price will go down to Rs 750/- per sq.feet on a multi story building.
