Hopsitals are not only providing health and cure for sick patients but at the same time making the patients and their attendents feel at home, so which side is the hospital today? Health care or Hospitality? Comment.
Having being spurred on by the burgeoning medical tourism market in India, many hospitals have jumped on to the being hospitable bandwagon to cash in on the boom time. Many medical facilities in hospitals are mimicking hotel environments and this synergy between hospitals and the hospitality industry is now being aptly branded as 'Hospitels', and is touted as being a new business model for the hospitality sector.
The very words-Hospital and Hospitality are derived from the same basic concept to treat others. One is for the pained where as the other for the pleasure. Both expect quality, Reliability and service. That service with more comforts in one, where as the other with a touch of care, warmth and dedication to their selected profession. In both customer satisfaction stands first to have sustainability in business. Both are no more mere services in the sense of Athithi Devo Bhava. They are now Vyapara Devo Bhava. So no wonder the hospitals of today are more towards Hospitality than Health care.

The corelation between a Hotel and a Hospital is people. People pay for comforts in a Hotel and people pay to get comfortable in Hospitals. Surely adding that touch of sensitivity and ambience is quite necessary for that paying customer so that he gets what he wants, service and attention!!
Note that even the municipal hospitals are going the hospitality way albeit in their given environment.
Sure, admissions in most private hospitals are treated as a star-rated stay and it is privatisation involving large corporates that has lead to such a bend. Whenever the Prime Cause (Healthcare in this case) is supplemented with a Secondary Cause (Hospitality in this case), the bent bound to happen.
