Why do companies prefer B.Tech Chemical Engineers to B.Tech Biotech in production jobs and M.sc are prefered to B.Techs in R & D

i really want someone from the industry to answer.

If B.Tech's are neither getting jobs in manufacturing nor in R & D sector, then it is not necessary to run the course. It can be scrapped right. But ironically most of the leading universities have started and it is increasing every year.

The industries who prefer B.Tech Chemical engineers to Biotechnologists when it comes to production jobs must realize that the Pharma/biotech field is just one of the career option for chemical engineers . But biotech engineers have no other go. Why would B.Techs waste four years when a biotech Master's degree(M.sc) can be obtained in five years.

Its  the high time the industries must realize this scenario.

It usually depends on the kind of requirement. If the production side is more process oriented then yes chemical engineering suits better than biotech and if there is a need for bio science and technology then B.Tech Biotechs are preferred. Usually the promotion of B.Tech Biotechnology is less in the Industry then compared to Chemicals or mechanical as they exist from last 100 years. It takes some time to pick up the pace with them. But currently the market for B.tech Biotech is not as bad as it was 4 years back. Its always better add an additional feather in your hat by going for some higher studies like MBA as it has lot of value to Biotech industry.

Actually in the Indian scenario, demand is much lesser than supply in regard to the number of candidates to the number of employers> Hence, biotech industry is still not a cup of tea for the frshers or the mediocres who arent hellbent on picking up research work.

Ya even I agree with this. Why are B.E., biotechnology graduates are not preffered. Even though they are having the same capability as of engineers from other branches.I want anyone to answer this question

I certainly agree with Sanketh. This situation toatlly rubbish, I attended an interview of an extremely reputed pharma-biotech industry which is said to be   No.1 in biotech recruitments, and i was astonished when that HR didnt even looked at my resume, he just asked my qualification ( By the way i am B.E biotechnology unfortunately)and showed me exit door. Although the opening was for B.Tech/B.E/BSc biotechnology and chemical engineering officially, but only fresh chemical engineers were selected and reson given to me was that i had no experience.

Guys I think companies dont want a B.Tech or B.E biotechnolgy candidates at all. There are many many universities offering these courses but practically jobs to student output ratio is miserable. These courses are lucarative for universities, job portals, consultancies.

Well ofcourse people who can afford for higher education can very well percieve it, but for people like me who cant afford the fee of higher studies (cos of no immovable assets or guarantor for loan) its not possible.

Ya i am having the same question. If this trend continues no one will be opting for B.tech Biotechnology. I strongly urge the govt to stop this course, bcoz universities are simply making hefty currency. A B.Tech costs about 4-6 lakhs from a reputed univ. While a BSc costs only half of it. I really demand a explanation from experts.
