hello all,

I have an article on my blog, that I published in February starting and someone copied it and posted on his blog(without mentioning the reference URL). Now what I see, his copied post is ranked on top outranking my original post.

What do you think, is it possible if one copied post could outrank the original post in Google search engine. I really don't know if in my case it has been visible on top by some serious error in Google algo. Because, if it is not due to error, then everybody will start coping content from other sources and would be visible on top.

Yes Manish the copied post can indeed outrank the original post, if the guy is generating more traffic to his site or blog then the search engine always shows his link first and then yours...whether it is copied or original it doesn't matter to the search engine.. it mostly takes the traffic criteria for the listing of ranks.....

I agree with what Mr.Radhakrishna said.It all depends on the page rank of the site/blog which is determined by the traffic that site is generating and how smartly the keywords have been used.

Well Manish,

i will say Yes, but the fault is Trackback url has to be mentioned.......because sometime during copying we will left somethings and we will post it in normal way.......because the same thing has happened with me even i use to post the article in Toostep by copying from somewhere but in some article i have mentioned the trackback url and some i forget and same has been tracked by AHMED SULTAN AND DEVI KALADEEN.

and their comments realise me the importance of trackback url..............

so, i can say that with trackback url if somebody is doing this thing then it's good because in actual way they are making aware to others about the knowledge of the thing that u have posted...

but without trackback if somebody is doing this then one should have to make that person realize abt. that as Ahmad And Devi did for me.

thanks to you both and to Manish u also because with ur this question i got opportunity to appolozize for the mistake i have done during my postings

Hello Manish, it is a real problem in the world of digital content. In case with the search engines, everything depends on some mathematical calculations and formula-based assumptions on how the data source or Web-site is popular. Search engines may use different parameters to calculate it, e.g. content replenishment and novelty, how often and regularly it is updated, how many cross-referrences to this site exist, its distance from the center of Web-graph etc. The search engine cannot take into account copyright and content duplication issues, at least so far. It will require from it to be intelligent enough to determine somehow whether the content is original or copied one, use some content authorship protection mechanism or at least to determine somehow who was the first (e.g. by publication data or by querying some content registration database). But now, I can assume that if your site has a lower rank, than other site which copied your content, the search engine will assume that you have copied their content. So, no wonder they copy-pasted content outranked your original one.

Yes, copied posts CAN outrank original posts. The ranking does NOT depend on the quality of the material. It depends on the rank of the publishing source.
In your particular case, we can say that the other blog (or website) has a higher rank than your blog.
