I am just worrying about that weither the ethanol can be a viable alternative to petroleum. The economic point of view of this fuel, and its impact on environment.
Top Answer :
Etahnol is not a alternative to Petroleum. It is an additive to Petrol. It can be added to 10% maximum in Petroleum, without changing ignition, emission properties of Petroleum. In Europe, it is added in ratio of 10%. In India, we have started adding upto 5% and debate is going on to increase it upto 10%.
Adopting to Ethanol, will at the most reduce India's dependence on OPEC countries for fuel needs by 10% maximum. The manufacturing cost of Ehanol vis-a-vis refined petroleum is lower. Ethanol also helps in reducing emission & improve environment.
