Could it be that maybe parents now a days give much more attention to their children than before?

I think a combination of things. Better early nutrition and early child care, as well as better prenatal care, probably have something to do with it. I think there is a higher standard expectation now too. When I was little, any kind of advanced early learning was mostly by accident or circumstance. Enrollment in a serious preschool was not the norm/ was not there at all, which is an indicator of upper middle class status.

Children were bought up in least facilities/ amenities environment and sources were limited to acquire them. Parent involvement also seems to have ratcheted up quite a bit too. When I wanted to do things, it was to join the NCC, or Scouts. Kids are now so much more connected, and the parents are expected to transport them around to as many activities as possible, and then some.

I am sure that most of us have noticed that children now a days are much more open minded then before. I also have noticed that when a child is new born they are much more awake and much more aware than before. They are born sucking their thumbs looking around everywhere. When you look at them you could almost swear they are not new born. Not only that, but most of the small children now a days will surprise you with what they already know. There have been times where a small child will totally impress me by what they know and I stop and ask myself, how does this child already know that?

In earlier days a child used to be rockstar if he could recite nursery rhymes with action but these days you would find parents presenting a child to the guests asking the child to present his learning. At times, even the parents do not know the talents in their ward and one fine day, off from the school, the ward comes home with a testimonial to his talents in form of trophy, shield, certificate or prize.

My question is why? Could it be that maybe parents now days give much more attention to their children than before? Or could it have something to do with that prenatal care and nutrition during pregnancy is taken much more serious then before?

I dont know, it is just something that came to mind.

I strongly second Mr Akhilesh Joshi's view, at present as parents our participation in the understanding of what pre school education is imparted to our childrenĀ has increased manifolds, also whats worth noting is that our grand parents had amazing acumen but the degree of brain work vis a vis brawn work was less and as the generations changed the degree of brain utilisation also increased, accordingly one can clearly observe the changes in the body and brain structures of future generations, the body part most used is developing more strongly, that is why it can be observed that more and more children are born with more powerful brains as compared to strong bodies. That is what we are passing on through our genes

I dont think children can be born intelligent unless and until they are born with pentium V chips in them which can only happen in a virtual world...God has been kind enough to stuff enough intelligence in all of us and its upto us how we make use of it...There are handicaps who have excelled in their own form - be it painting or singing. Its we whos got to grasp things around us and compete with the rest of the mortals to be so called 'Intelligent'

nope every born is born with more or less same IQ but the opportunities for increasing are more now.Ā For the previous generation it was libraries, word of mouth of experienced/talented personnel or the grand parents in the combined family set up.Ā Due to mobility on account of employment/education etc combined families are no longer there so the opportunity of listening to grandparents is missing.Ā Add to this, there were not many things like the telephone, tvs, internet etc for the earlier generation.Ā This gap was filled by the gurukul system, passing of information from generation to generation through improvement of memory or repetition of the learnt knowledge take the case of vedas handed down from generation to generation.

It is not the matter about our children are having more knowledge or intelligent than us.Ā But it is a matter of how our children are getting knowledge or intelligent.Ā Yes indeed our kids are having more opportunity to grasp the knowledge and update themselves.Ā In our age, Computer is a costly thing to afford. But nowadays, in every house we are using computers.Ā The TV is a symbol of richness in those days, but nowadays, the Govt is providing FREE TV for each and every house to know the updated news. The Children are mimic of their parents and their guardians.Ā So, they extract the most intelligent matters only through us and through our surroundings.

When we are young, our parents and previous generations used to think, that we are smarter than them. Now we are thinking our children are smarter than us. Child begins to learn when it is in the womb. The exposure we have today is much more than what our parents had.Ā Thats helping our child more.Ā Other than that love and caring remains the same from stone age to internet age
