Current situation of Mumbai & Delhi is very pathetic. Due to huge Infrastructure & Real Estate developments etc. and nos. of all the national and international corporate H.O. in these cities, the cities are not able to hold the current crowd. I have no answer what shall happen after 5 or 10 years in these cities since there are no steps taken either from Central or State Government to reduce the crowd.
Al tough we young people can walk through these crowd but when i see a 65 year old man or woman or a very small children, who are really struggling for there life in these cities.
I shall really be very thank full, if we all shall contribute some idea in this area.
Today - the whole control is under the big corporates such as Tata's, Kotak, Reliance, Sahara, Mittals, Bajaj etc. They are the one who run the state as well as the Central Government. If they want to develop a new city like Mumbai-I, then Mumbai-II then III etc., then defiantly 70% of the problem of over crowd will be solved. Making flyover, running metros and mono rail will never solve the problem.
And the rest 30%, need by suberub planning of these township, all the schools, collages, shop, offices, P.O. and other infrastructures which is required for day to day life need to be planned. Then only, the next generation shall survive in these cities else........
The only way is to grow sideways developing into more suburban areas. Governments neither do have the will power nor the money.
Most of the Corporates are just parasites interested only in amassing more and more wealth for themselves.
However, growth of Delhi with its suburbs belonging to different states, in the past two decades is to be greatly appreciated. In comparison Mumbai has failed to achieve any substantial improvement in spite of the suburbs belonging to same State. What ever be the ideological indifference of Shiv Sena, they had better will power than the many congress governments for the welfare of Mumbai. Unfortunately, Shiv Sena also has been splintered and lack direction now.
The most despicable thing is that the politicians make such a big hulla gulla on non-issues like who attends what function etc. instead concentrating on real issues that required attention both by the government and the corporate world.
Very interesting question...
But i do see govt taking steps in this direction...the SEZ's are a part of it......there are also many other schemes run by the Central govt. and the state govt. u can see many 5 star industrial estates are proposed and some are in progress, I strongly feel that there is some sort of a broken link in this chain of development and that is pushing the business icons and new MNC's in this newly developed areas.
My opinion is central govt. is not strong in this field...state governments for the heck of getting the MNC into their state and that to in the area from where the X n Y industries minister is leading his political seat, these ministers bow down to the conditions of the MNC,s and thus break the development link.
So if Central govt. takes charge of the industrial development of the states on a honest platform and provide infrastructure required through the state govt. I think de-populating the major cities is possible.
Day by day all the Metros are becoming over populated. The situation in Mumbai and Delhi is more acute. Moot cause : people are leaving rural and semi urban centres to live in town and cities. Solutions :
--- Develop the nearby and far away villages with better facilities on war footings
--- Give the villagers jobs to earn their living - Agri and Agro-based activities may be encouraged
--- ask the city MLAs, MPs, Councilors not to encourage influx of people in the city. Ask them not to issue I.cards / Voter cards / ration cards in a hurry
--- Bring together the leading Business Houses of the city and ask them to make more and more satelite towns .. ask Delhi Govt to encourage them by way of subsidy etc.
