Projects are normally managed through a structured approach generally following well defined steps in a sequence such as initiation, plan, execute, control and closure.

Traditional project management methodologies are geared to manage and accomplish the work (or Job) taking into consideration the constraints of cost, quality and time, planning for these well in advance. Project managers are taught importantly to prevent scope creep.


Does this traditional approach, curtail proclivity to innovate? Rational to such line of thinking is that, since project management typically emphasizes on strict control on requirements and finishing the project in a specified time, could this curb the after thoughts that emerge between the job activities or different stages of a project..?!!..

Traditional project management could not be a barrier for innovation, as time changes there will be only change in implementing the things but the initial steps/ requisites remains the same.

No, it can never become barrier. Today, it is a time for innovation, people are thinking innovative way, thinking new ideas, many time use experiential strategy etc. And today many advanced technologies are available so it require to follow or adopt to compete in market, survive in market.

Due to advanced thing, the perception is changing that traditional can become barrier. And, now company are accepting advanced thing, more young people are coming with new ideas, innovative - creative thoughts etc.

So, overall it is to be changing the way of planning, strategy and its execution. Methodology may change but experience can not change, The importance thing is Execution &  its result as said by Mr. Satwinder . Innovation will give you more fineness in your strategy...and when two thing will combine "your Experience and Innovation" , it can give you good result

No Approach is a barrier, but a booster...!

How it is being implemented? is important.

In India, Project Management basically stresses out on meeting TAT/SLA hence creating pressure and reducing the chance for innovative ideas to pop-up.

It should rather be expected from a group, who was involved in the Project earlier and now focusing on innovations, business modelling and introducing new technologies, justifying their understanding of the project, their seniority and experience.

However, innovation can pop-up from any level. So everyone should be open to the ideas, no matter who-so-ever brings it. He should be rewarded and motivated at the same time.
