What are required qualities for a person who is heading the Sales & Marketing? What are do's and dont's for that position?

Sales and Marketing are just two sides of the same coin. Marketing is the cause and sales is the effect. Heads of these departments  receive beatings from both sides.  Suchi Smita has rightly called him the backbone of the company. He bears the weight and feels the pressure from TOP to BOTTOM.

He should know the offered product/s, competitors, market potential and its customers very well. He should be able to train his team in such a way that the team should confidently handle the customers queries.

head shud protect , respect , feed , take care of his team ..as a captain of USS enterprise ship .. that is like the captain of INS KHUKHRI shud prefer dying with an unburn cigarrette in his lips :: but ::saving the entire loyal crew / team !!

According to me he should know who his target customer are. Should be in a position to segment things and generate leads through his team. Should have good analytics skill to analyze the growth of the company. 

As a whole he should be the backbone of the company.....
