HRM is a Reactive function while HRD is a Pro Active one.
HRM IS THE responsibility of HR manager only, while HRD is the responsibility of all the managers,it is pervasive activity.
HRM deals with Recruitment, selection ,placement, training, development, compensation, conflict resolution, industrial dispute,HRD on the other hand is a part of it which deals with Training Development, performance appraisal, career development etc.

HRM deals with the day to day operations of the human resources department. This curriculum would include bus. law, compensation, employee relations, benefits, and medical etc.

HRD : Human Resource Development deals with the training and the developmental aspect of employees. Most HRD curriculum include classes like T & D, organizational dev., industrial psy.

HRM stands for human resources management, which refers to the art of managing all aspects of the human work force at a company or organization.  While HRD refers to Human Resource Development, is one of the components of HRM, focuses on ‘nurturing’ employee’s skills. Since the process of hiring new employees would be long, expensive and cumbersome, most companies employ the strategy of HRD to answer the employee turnover.
