No workplace is immune or free from occupational diseases and accidents. But some are more at risk than others. Micro enterprises in the informal sector – where economic survival is the first priority – tend to lack resources and know-how on OSH management. If they weren’t thinking about OSH issues before the crisis, it’s unlikely they will start doing so now. If more workers take on precarious work and jobs in the informal economy, it stands to reason that there may be more exposures to occupational hazards and risks. Migrants may be more affected than local workers as they are often found in more precarious situations. It is worth pointing out here that the potential impact on the health of workers goes beyond the victims of downsizing or the remaining workers. It also affects workers’ families and the communities where restructuring occurs.

Hiren, good topic to discuss!  When you want to captivate the attention of members, try not to use abbreviations, such as, OSH issue, etc.  You have to give expansion to these terms.  A person takes up labour job in an unorganised sector due to abject poverty!  He knows the perceptible danger in the job he undertakes, does he have any choice?  Some organised sectors are monitored by the Labour Ministry, ensure their safety by covering them under "Employees State Insurance Scheme" and "State-of-the-Art ESIC hospitals" are there in every district in almost all the States and Union Territories of this country. Employees at all levels who are working in  Mining, quarrying, heavy industries, glass industries, hazardous chemical industries, are in ever-danger scenario!  Workers have no other choice!

Risk varies from person to person & field to field, but yes risk is always there at every work place.

Thanks for your concern about risk, Mr. Hiren. & thanks for referral.

Workers in informal sectors suffer more than formal sectors. But then micro enterprises can hardly afford additional expenditure and allocation.

Thanks,Hiren for showing concern to workers of unorganized sectors.
