well for thinking minds the impact is different than the masses and since this is to tingle the psychology of masses who are fascinated by the icons so more or less the marketeer succeeds if the product finds acceptance but the cost has to be borne by the buyers and not the product manufacturer or the marketeer.

Not unless they are famous in the field the product is used. A famous climber endorsing ropes I might pay attention to, or a famous driver endorsing cars. But the routine celeb endorsement puts me off, because I know the price will be higher in order to pay the celeb.
