i think its time to think of underground transmission throughout our country. Most of the trees on road sides which is a scenic beauty and a shade for the travellers are axed now a days to keep them away from these electric wires. Most of houses in kerala has any of coconut or jackfruits at the border near the compound walls but the house owners are forced to cut down those trees because of the frequent cause of power failure due to the falling of branches. shouldn't we find an alternative???

Mr. Joshi and Mr. Nijagunaradhya are right. These are indeed serious problems. These lines are not only destroying the scenic beauty but also becoming a reason of deforestation....

Electric cables running underground would not create any problem, if proper care is taken. Branches are cut regularly, in case of trees fouling the transmission lines. Even branches or coconut leaves growing above the lines are not allowed since they may fall on the wires and create problems.

Rural electircity distribution is a serious problem for electicity boards. Since the houses are far from each other and connected by 'kuccha' roads, cable laying itself would be a problem. Later on, providing service is again a problem for linemen. Electricity board and the government needs to look into this seriously... Normally, if electicity is 'off' in such remote area, the resumptions would take days together many a times due to non-availability of servicemen or infrastructure. Giving complaint as well as their redressals are difficult tasks in forest areas.

An alternative is definetely needed in this issue, because we cannot keep on cutting trees.Even if done also by the govt there needs to be a replacement.

I think its better to go for underground ones provided private power suplliers implement this in near future. And now itself is also the better time for the developing residential townships, commercial,.etc to think about implementing this system, without causing any harm to the natural ones.

Also care needs to be taken because already we have drainage pipes in underground . Both intersecting or giving pressure during any transmission problems may again lead to surface damage also.
