I am getting calls from consultancies to join them as recruiter. but i have heard that experience from consultancy does not count in your CV and you will be treated as fresher in industry even then.what should i do?

I give my thumbs up to Saibal....no job is a waste!!  well when u work in a consultancy firm make sure you work for reputed firm. Who said a consultancy firm is just ment for recruitment, it gives u chance to bring business development as well. when u bring new employers to the recruit list its an achievement.

You have lots to do in consultancy firm as well. when u start ur job its a little boring but when u get a hang of it ul love it. It will definately add to ur work experience. who says it will not add. i have worked for consultancy firm and my experience counted. in fact i learned a lot there. But there is a constrain here if u r there for only a year in consultancy then u will be treated as a fresher  only.

stick to ur job at least for a year or 2 then ur experience will definately count. all the best give ur career a kick start ul not regret!!

No job is a waste...any job gives you an experience of a lifetime...look at the US economy with most of them still unemployed...am sure they would pounce on such an opportunity if they sniff out any...just a boost for you...i have a friend whose worked in an HR consultancy firm for 1.5 years and now hes with one of the tier-1 companies in the HR dept...so go ahead and chase your dream...in whatever form it may come...you will sniff gold somewhere in the haystack...Cheers!

I agree with Darshana in that you do get experience in how to handle candidates, knowing various industry requirements, etc. This can then be presented favourably to prospective employers. Hence, the only loss you may have is that the time you put in may not be calculated as experience.

Yes consultancy jobs many do not consider as an actual experience, as they will not handle any work which a HR will be doing in the first place, but to know how the whole recruitment happens in the first place gives you an headstart than others, and also you will learn to handle a candidate in the firstplace. So, experience or no experience, but it will give you experience in knowing how the industry is and how it functions and what corporate structure is all about as you will be placing candidates to  many corporates.
