I am Manjunath, I have completed MTech(Bioinformatics) in May 2009 and working as Research Assistant in one of the Bangalore based Biotech Company since one year.
Now I got an opportunity from an Prestigious engineering college to join as a faculty(for BE biotech) with 6th Pay.I love working in corporate field, but if i think about pursuing PhD it might little difficult to manage with the PhD work along with my office work. I am thinking to join as faculty and complete the PhD and come back to corporate.
My only concerned is will company/corporate give prefrence to the people from the teaching background.
Please suggest me .
Thanks and Regards,
Manjunath.
Hi Manjunath it was pleasure to get connected with you. According to my view it's very important to do PhD for a person who have pure sciece education background (like zoology, microbiology, botany etc.). To get a good position at R&D department in an industry. Its also sufficient to have MSc in some cases but if you want to reach higher position then it becomes more important to have a PhD degree.
Another most important point when you decide to do an PhD that its not only a course where you are doing to learn your way out with passing exams and doing some practical courses. It needs total passion and dedication towards your work. And if you want to do PhD then you need full time devotion towards your work, half a day work or some hours in a week will not help you to finish PhD in good time.
In your case when you have a MTec degree and job in company, with current market condition I will really suggest you to continue your current job, and ask your management if they can help you to get register at some University by creating some joint research project. And then you can publish some of your work after company approval to finish your PhD. In that way you will keep working in corporate world and do your PhD.
Hope this will help you, if you want we can talk further
With best wishes
