Java has been around sine very very long..... but nowadays most of the development i being done on .NET as MS is really advancing on it. Not that i am a supporter of MS, they still make buggy OS & applications, but .NET has matured a lot over the last 5 years. For better career growth i would recommend .NET as of now.
