Can't we use the Kinetic Energy from the brakes of the Automobiles to save some energy to be used after braking is over?
Please advice/Comments please
Yes one can use Kinetic energy from brakes for a cause. But it has to be coupled with a motor to charge the batteries. As the Dynamo already exists to charge batteries probably this mechanism would fit better in a hybrid car and is called a “Regenerative Braking System”. In future when we have 42v batteries (development in progress) and the need for charging them is more then I think this can be implemented on cars commercially. Another possibility is to restore kinetic energy from Suspension system too.
A technology by name “Electric Wedge Brake (EWB)” is also on cards where Kinetic energy from rotating wheels is converted into Braking Energy for the same wheels. This requires only one tenth of energy compared to hydraulic braking system. It reduces components on a vehicle (As it is mounted on brake disc itself).
It is done on Hybrids where the energy dissipated is generated by motors which charge the batteries for running the vehicle at lower speed later. When the brakes are applied the motors get energised by the kinetic energy of rotation and it charges the battery with current generated by braking.
Even coaches recently imported from Germany which is supposed to run in Delhi Metro, are
having this design. We get carbon credits for that.

yes one can use this energy in the vehicle itself as one can reduce recharging their batteries and with Indian roads it is bound that with all the humps and bad roads one will hit brakes on n number of occassions and with the population of vehicles in country raising day by day...if one can use that energy for something useful will be beneficial for one going green and help in a cause.
