The role of developments in science and technology in the growth of our nation cannot be over-emphasized.
There is a saying: 'In today's world, we have to run as fast as we can, to stay where we are.'
We have to keep pace with the world, or we will soon be among most backward nations.
But all things come at a price, and we have to be prepared for it.
Perhaps benefits of growth in Science and Technology have not been derived fully, partly because general masses have not yet appreciated it, and scientific thinking al many levels is lagging. This has to be overcome fast.
Fast growth in science is indeed a boon if channelised properly. There has to be a clear marked out program and this program should be open for public scrutiny without divulging sensitive information that can be accessed to by a core group of scientist set up by the government as an independent body with each member being elected on a rotational basis for two years.
My reason for saying this is that, if science needs to grow at a fast pace and for the benefit of the people, then all the money spent on R& D has to be ensured that it is not misused. Also areas of development should be clearly marked out like Public health, crops and then defence in that order. If too much of emphasis was shown on defense R&D, all the other sectors would lose out. A healthy nation only can fight a war and win it and not otherwise. Even all the sophisticated equipment form russia could not help Saddam win the gulf war. It is another matter though as to why he really lost the war but my basis for saying is that a nation has to be self sufficient in most of the areas before they can shore up their defenses.
Look at Israel and China, how they have turned themseles into self sufficient nations before becoming aggressive. This was achieved in a short span of time whereas India being such a great nation and with half of our scientist occupying the top slots in NASA we havent been able to turn it into our advantage.
It is two way process One way is that which is making our country more indpendent and internationally strong among the top leader countries of the world and marking our presence as very fast emergers of the Asia. But internally by different inter- connected market process are resoning for price hiking which is direct impact on middle and low income group people. I can said at present scenerio fast growth in science is not a well maintain way therefore it is a boon as well as also a little curse for our nation.
I believe in growth of science for a better standard of living. First of all Medicine will bring more health and longer life. Then Engineering will give more popularity, and will help in water conducting technology, for more cleaness and order. Young people will be stimulated to study also in college and University, so I see a culture growth
