My company's Vision states that I should be entrepreneurial. When I asked the meaning the most common answer is, "entrepreneur is the one who invests in a venture". But I have not done so in my company. Then how can I be an entrepreneur?
Dear Vivek,
Entrepreneur is an entrepreneur not because he invests money. He is an entrepreneur because he brings the other factors of production together and facilitates production; and because he accepts the risk of the production process. All other factors of production would not do this exceptional thing of owning the ultimate risk. Land would claim its rent; labor would claim his wages; capital would insist on its interest, irrespective of success or failure of the enterprise. Only the entrepreneur would accept the risk. That is why he is greater than other factors of production, which left to themselves or in the absence of entrepreneur, would be incapable of producing anything.
In recognition of this special status of the term entrepreneur, the adjectival use has come into vogue. It stands for 'responsible, innovative, taking initiative, prudent'.
Hi,
I agree with Sanjay Kaushik that the meaning of Entreprneur may vary and one meaning in the context of a professional working for a company also is his/her ability to take calculated risks to develop new business as he/she is the one investing time, money and manpower (of his/her company) to develop the business and his ability to build a vision and making that particular venture successful is his entrepreneurship.
Now a person in each function in the company is doing this in his/her own way towards the common goal of success for his/her company
Entrepreneurial approach is the orientation of the employee helping the organization with his creative thoughts and evolving innovations in production.
Entrepreneurial ability of the employee is the result of the individual effort leading him and others towards cost effectiveness in the projects.
An entrepreneur envisions himself as the institution and makes his every deed responsible for profit earning of the institution.
In this prospect you have been asked to have entrepreneurial approach.
Hi,
The meaning of 'Entrepreneur' may varies as per the perception of people. As I have observed now a days employer wants the employees who have entreprenurial approach. It means they can take complete ownership of the work, take initiatives, financial analysis of the project, positive attitude, best utilization of the resources & also always look for the solution of the problem instead of complaining.
It may happen that your company is also thinking the same way.
Probably the intended word is intrapreneur. And, you may not have any financial investment in the company, but you have invested your labor, intelligence and a part of your career in the company. So, you may not be an entrepreneur, but you could be an intrapreneur.
- intra- + entrepreneur : a corporate executive who develops new enterprises within the corporation

- Create a confidential Career Profile and Resume/C.V. online
- Get advice for planning their career and for marketing of experience and skills
- Maximize awareness of and access to the best career opportunities

I dont think this story just shows our attitude towards appreciation of art. It also shows the hypocracy attached to the appreciation of artistic works. Since nobody new the artist nobody cared. If he would have played same tunes with his usual fan &... |
