First tell me what do you mean by new plant.
A new plant can be developed by genetic engineering with some desired or undesired genes .Also by conventional method of plant breeding.
Please define new plant as there are many answers to this questions,
If you are talking about Genetically modified plants transgenic plants are a good example. Transgenic plants have been engineered to possess several desirable traits, including resistance to pests, herbicides or harsh environmental conditions, improved product shelflife, and increased nutritional value. In these many wats they are different from normal plants....
New plants formed from old plants. Hehehe. Dear u must mention that you are talking about genetically modified plants. GM plants have specific characters which are not present in the parent plant. these charactersare mostly useful for us but in some cases like terminator technologies these new traits can be hamful also.
New Plants are different in 2 ways:
1.Selected infection free,vigourous,productive and rearly available and multiplied by "Micropropagation" technique.
2.Genetically modified and multiplied in vitro.
Plants developed through biotechnology carry specific genetic traits or characteristics that would be difficult or impossible to acquire using traditional plant breeding practices. Plant biotechnology makes it possible to transfer a single desired trait from any organism to a plant.
