From what I beleive, the role of envoirnmental sustainabily team is to integrate construction activity with the envoirnment around. This is usually achieved by ensuring minimum disturbance to the envoirment both in short term and long term;makeup for any damage done by taking counter measures. This requires a panoramic view with a deep understanding of the envoirnmental factors governing the region and also keeping track of envoirnmental assets,building assets and constant vigil on changes in the region.
Environment sustainability according to me replenishment of resources in totality and at any given point of time resources utilised for construction should not be more than resources either created in new with the help of either new generation or with recycling. So that at all point environmental balance is maintained.
Green buildings are based on this broad concept.
As high consumption levels combined with an ever increasing global population means that we are using the earths resources faster than they can regenerate. And sustainability which means living within the natural limits of our planet. Sustainable practices should not only be practiced by construction companies but also by governments, industry and individuals, which will help to protect a healthy and safe environment for our children and for generations to come.
