Dear friends, the affordable housing is rapidly growing in India, many private builders are coming forward with good infrastructure and affordable price, but their target is the poor in the urban cities. What about the poor in rural parts of India. How can the poor get affordable housing?
Interesting Q & A Mr. Sing, I think the NGOs can play an important role in getting affordable housing to the poor. They can help them through loan recovery, by encouraging and facilitating slum communities to save part of their earnings in recurring deposits and by making microfinance available to them. Facilitating such regular savings helps the more vulnerable families to benefit from such housing schemes. It is also important to look for new methods of land use planning and management factoring in the population growth projections.
