The ancient Indian techniques of Ayurveda, Aromatherapy, Massage, Yoga, Herbal Medicine and Meditation are a perfect dose for those interested in alternative methods of achieving life-long health and feed their inner self. These techniques are also the most important preventive measures with which to combat the malaises of everyday life. . Indian Ayurveda pre-dates most other systems of wellness. India is emerging as a great destination for health tourism because it has several pull factors like excellent health treatment at low cost, easy accessibility, picturesque locations for excellent holiday, etc.

Holistic medicine is a descriptive term for a healing philosophy that views a patient as a whole person, not as just a disease or a collection of symptoms. In the course of treatment, holistic medical practitioners or doctors/ physicians may address a client's emotional and spiritual dimensions as well as the nutritional, environmental and lifestyle factors that many contribute to an illness. Many holistic medical practitioners combine conventional forms of treatment with natural or alternative treatments.

It needs to be put on a sound scientific base--from the practice rooms of individuals to the labs for trials. As of today, it is mostly 'hearsay', based on personal experience which cannot be validated and often the last resort of the desperate. Remember 'scientist' Munir Khan who is evading the police in Mumbai and the 'dagadwale' baba from Nashik who gave herbal medicines for cancer!

I agree with Bindu Narayan. Also not only in India, but in entire world it is doing better. More & more people are going for alternative medicines, especially for Ayurveda. People have started accepting the traditional science and nature in keeping them selves hale & healthy. In fact Ayurveda preaches "prevention first then cure". It is accepted fact that Ayurveda prefered much in curing chronic disease like diabetes millitus, B.P, cardio problems, Asthama, Piles, Infertility etc.

future of alternate medicine is based on market driven force, the consumer culture of the developed world which is also infecting India will decide how it will do business, eg is Shri Ramdeo baba, with ofcourse media push,it has become a venture of mild psychosomatic problem bearer. But if you talk about real critical diseased where question of life and death arises, alternate medicine has little scietific date to prove itself, and secondly safety profile data from scietific studies are not avialble.

I think the general performance of alternative medicines in India is heading in a right direction and doing much better than any other country. With our traditional science heritage, we can lead the way in alternative therapies. In the whole we can clearly say that the sector has taken giant strides. There is a growing tendency among the people that many are going for complementary and alternative medicine than the conventional medicines knowing the way it can improve the health. Conventional treatment have a lot of side effect on our body but the alternative medicines are free from all these.
