Can you tell how the domestic IT market is shaping up as many of the IT gaints are eyeing on the domestic market to crack deals?
Recently we are seeing many govt deals happening and many IT companies are taking these projects to enter into the domestic market. One among them was Wipro Technologies, the second largest IT Company in India as per the 2008-09 revenue is seeking around Rs.700 crore from government projects in the current fiscal year. According to sources, Indian government will soon introduce various projects under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) and the company wants to harvest these projects.
Adding to what Ms.Mahalakshmi has wrote, TCS is looking at Rs 3,000-crore government projects to help it double its revenues from the domestic market in three years. The country’s largest IT services company is chasing 24 projects related to technology implementation in railways, defence, power and several state governments. The company hopes to bag a large number of these projects in the coming 12-18 months and double the share of its domestic business to 10% in three years.
I just read an article saying that IT services provider TCS has won the country's largest state-wide area network (SWAN) project from the Andhra Pradesh government. This is the fourth SWAN project TCS has bagged in a row, its now implementing SWAN projects in Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar. The proposed SWAN project will enable the state government to start and run various e-governance projects and citizen services.
The domestic IT market is really picking up. With Unique ID project coming up and implementation of e delivery model of services and outsourcing of activiites by various government departments will only make it grow more.
When viewed on an Year over Year basis one can easily see the growth on their own.
But we should remember that our Domestic IT industry can still be considiered as a "Sunrise Industry". If companies, doing major international IT jobs, persume that the Domestic IT industry growth will offset the downward trend in international IT markets, then I am afraid it is not correct.
There are still a lot of work to be done collectively by policy makers, Industry and experts jointly for domestic IT industry to mature.
Yes. It is shaping up - Let us do more for it to mature.
Domestic IT market has started its raise and I foresee many more companies would shift their outward looking strategy to tap the domestic potential. It is a good sign to Indian IT workforce as well as the huge revenue opportunities available may possibly provide an air cover from global economic turbulances.
I feel end to end system integrators will be the one which most benefited from the government projects rather than pure play service providers.
Even Canon is eyeing govt projects to enter into the domestic market. Seeing the growth in the domestic market, the company has announced to double the workforce of the unit responsible for Government projects. Canon India is expecting that Government led projects will contribute most to its business and most of its sales in this unit will route through system integrators. Canon is also expecting growth from government projects in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujarat and Delhi.

This might sound odd to many but yes laptops are not tough. They can break and get damaged and you will regret if this happens. So the best thing to do is to protect it the best way possible. There is just one laptop Tough book which will not... |
