These things normally does not have an average investor. The average thing is a hypothetical construct that keeps people from thinking straight. Most of the funds tied up in equities are not controlled directly by individual investors anyway - these funds are managed through institutions or entities such as mutual funds, ETF's, Pension funds etc.
Suckers are actually the people who sit on the side even when there is a bear market.

I am sorry to say this but I think in the exact opposite direction, the govt. is being the biggest shareholder in these companies and the profit margin of these companies is also negative every year. |
