Project Portfolio Reviews and assessment should be done at frequent intervals to facilitate

1. Right Mix of Projects are in the Portfolio  (ie, A portfolio should nt have too many risky projects or too many Low value projects)

2. Terminate the Non Strategic Projects and Prioritize, add any new projects from the Pipeline to the Projects Portfolio.

3. Balancing the Portfolio / Optimizing the Portfolio

4. Maximizing the ROI

You should very often review your project portfolio, it might be when the release date changes, when your project is completed, when new product is introduced in the market and when you have enough information about the next version of a product

How often should one review the project portfolio??. Well, I would say when your project finishes and when its time for allocating the budget and human resource to the new project.

Once you have done with the project don't forget to review your portfolio.....
