Step1
When the interviewer asks why they should hire you, it's important to be prepared. It's a good idea to jot down a basic outline of the points you want to cover prior to the interview. Don't memorize it, but make sure you know exactly what to cover.
Step2
Why should they hire you? Think hard about this one. "I'm honest, trustworthy and a hard worker." Yes, these are all great traits that employers look for, but they've heard these reasons a thousand times. Come up with an answer that will make you stand out. "I'm willing to do whatever I need to do to succeed." Doesn't this sound better than "I'm a hard worker."
Step3 :
It's okay to reference past accomplishments when telling the interviewer why they should hire you. "I am detail oriented. In fact, I was given special recognition by my current employer for perfecting project X." With this example, you've referenced a strength, an accomplishment, and special recognition your former employer felt compelled to give you. Try to make sure that your examples tie in to the position you're interviewing for.

Whenever interviewers ask this question, they're looking to see how a) you have done your homework and b) how you can address their pain points.
When you've done your homework - that is study what the company is into, what the job details are like. When you have studied what the company offers and what they're looking for, then it shows a genuine interest in the company as a whole and the job in particular.
Once you have done that, you know how to address their pain points. You bring a skill set that is unique to you. Using what is expected (job requirements), you can pitch your skill set in a way that will benefit the company and let you get a toe in.
