Organization Development (OD) is a process of improving Profitability, Productivity, Quality of Workforce etc. OD Consultants work with various levels of employees and suggest measures to improve the Organisation. Some of them are Strategic Planning, Conflict Resolution, Orgaization Restructuring etc.

Can you suggest what are the points to look at for improving the overall performance of the organisation ?

OPTIMIZATION OF RESOURCES - MEN, MATERIAL & MONEY ENSURE effective functional system in place - paradigm - no employee is indispensable. COMPLACENCY at any level should not be allowed to creep in the system. GROUP cohesiveness is fostered and group dynamics maintained. PRUDENCE of expenditure wherever possible should be addressed immediately across the board.

The process should start from analyzing & evaluating whether the organization has an effective performance management system in place, and how effective it really is. As we work through the various components of the PM system, track gaps in performance and interview people at various levels, we are then in a position to diagnose those processes that need improvement, submit recommendations for an OD strategy, processes and plans. It has to involve those at all levels of the organization.

No single mantra will work for an organisation to show a consistency in improvement.  The organisation shall be a learning organisation means its HR right from the top to bottom must be competent enough and ready to update their knowledge from time to time and be ready to take the leaps that come their way positively.  Productivity and profitability depends on the cost effective measures the organisation could able to put forth.  Cost effective measures includes mergers, take overs, slimming down etc. Stricter Quality Control measures helps in holding the present customer base and to further strengthen the base.  Corporate Governance is the other contributing factor to satisfy the stake holders and stock holders as well.
