I would proudly announce the aspects of how to reduce consumption in street lighting as I saw how it is done in china when I went to learn about LED Lighting and also how the small wind turbines were enough to generate enough of electricity for apox 30 32 watts which is equalant to 100 watts of street lighting... it was amazing to see the LED lighting spread so well.... they have used optic lence and each light is 25 meters apart and 18 meters in hight and it is like daylight.... it is also controlled by centeral controlling device from the department... well this is so wonderful to implement in our country I have the ppt of the entire sytem .....

for saving energy connsumption in street light , there we use solar plates & using CLF bulbs which consume less energy.other this we use sensors for on/off the lights, means when light intensity are low that time bulbs on and when light intensity is more thats time this gets off and the distance between two strret pole and hight of poles are affect the energy consumption so by this use we reduce energy consumption in street light.

Daylight saving helps a lot to reduce the consumption of power for lighting.

India should take to daylight saving.

Use of solar powered and wind powered lamps is also the long term solution.

CONTRACTORS should opt for light coloured roads or Concrete pavements. By constructing this type of roads the visibility in the night will be very good and also reduces the dependancy on ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING.

As Mr. Anup said, Why cant we use the solar energy. In the emergency light this simple technique is used. So if we get energy from the solar , when can use that when its not there. So the day timing we produce or save energy and in night we can utilise that. A sensor its helpful for the maintanance.

energy efficient light is to be used in street light  which will save significant amount  energy  and proper switching arrangement should be there to switch on and off when it required light and when does not required  to save energy as due to mis use a lot energy is wasted in our street light.

alternatively we should try to utilize other alternative renewable energy like solar power/wind power/ Bio-gas power etc for street light to save our conventional energy in long term.
