Confidence is a term that is used to describe how secure a person is in his decisions, actions and abilities. It describes the amount of faith a person has in himself. Self-confidence reflects how a person views himself. A person's level of confidence is often apparent in every aspect of his being. Confidence shows in a person's speech, body language and mannerisms.
Confidence is a necessary component in reaching our goals but over-confidence can be interpreted in negative ways. Simply stated, over-confidence is confidence that is unwarranted. For example, a person may be very confident in an area that he actually has little knowledge and expertise. Over-confidence can be projected as an inflated ego. A person may appear egotistical, arrogant and somewhat of a braggart. Over-confidence may also be a smokescreen for lack of confidence. People often try to build their own confidence by tearing others down. In this way, they feel better about themselves. It doesn't mean that they are bad people; it simply means that they don't know how to build their own level of confidence.
There is only a wafer thin difference between confidence and over confidence.Over confidence is displayed when a person thinks too high of himself over estimates him and underestimates others.That can also be called arrogance.

CONFIDENCE HAS TO BE WELL THOROUGHLY KNOWN UPTO OUR ABILITIES, CAPACITY WITH WHAT WE HAVE, IF U CROSS THE LIMIT OF CONFIDENCE THEN IT BECOMES OVERCONFIDENCE WHERE U DONT TRY FOR ANYTHING BUT TO HAVE THE FRUIT IN UR LAP.....

Overconfidence is when you think of nothing but yourself and as a result underestimate the opposition.
i know is confidence ONLY i know is over-confidence.

here are my feelings on the issue. renne has put across her thoughts very well and i largely agree. i would define self confidence a shade differently though. i would say that self confidence is the faith one has in his own abilities to be able to perform. yes, and as renne has brought out - it shows. it shows in our thoughts, speech and actions. over confidence on the other hand is nothing but a defence mechanism which attempts to hide one's lack of confidence. at an extreme i would say this is more easily seen in the case of bullies who go about exhibitionistically projecting themselves loudly - displaying confidence to shield the lack of it. and as a last word - self confident people are judicious in their energy expenditures - lack of confidence leads to uneconomical efforts. do give this a thought too. regards.
