We have used EPDM waterproofing system on the building roof in one of the project and we have loosely laid the EPDM. The Geotextile is laid after the surface preparation and above that EPDM is loosely laid. The roof has somany foundation projected for auxiliary services. Hence there is lot of patch work. The ponding test have been conducted on the loosely laid EPDM and same has failed. Therefore I would like to know:-
- What is the correct method of application ?
- When the ponding test should be conducted prior to screed concreting or after screed concreting?
- What should be level of water for ponding test?
EPDM WATERPROOFING is foolproof only with following conditions :
1. The application surface should be smooth , levelled & should not have depressions. This allows the EPDM membrane to fully cling to the base surface .
2. The adhesive should be applied absolutely in uniform thickness , avoiding air pockets & bulge zones , thus becoming puncture prone.
3. Once you lay the membrane sheet, proper rolling should be done at uniform pressure & speed.
4. EPDM laid surface on accessible roofs should be covered with screed concrete in suitable gradient towards discharge drain outlets.
5.The laying of concrete should be done carefully preventing the fall of aggregates from height on EPDM sheet to prevent puncture.
6.The foot trafic before should not have spiked shoes.
7. Tools , Tackles, sharp instruments need to be handled carefully while on EPDM membrane, thereby preventing their fall.
