good in C, C++, Java, SAN
Very good blog here Marcus. I started out as a desktop support person in a network full of collision domains.... yes, it was full of hubs! As a desktop support person, I constantly ran into networking issues and to the end user, it appeared that the destop was slow. Getting my Network+ and CCNA really helped me in understanding the network. There was one time where I asked the network dept to replace a hub with a switch because I knew that it would break up the collision domains. The installation of the switch fixed the problem and although I was not the network person at the time, having the knowledge and understanding helped me be a better desktop technician. Because I had my CCNA and used it where ever possible in my desktop job, I was promoted to a Jr. network engineer. I then became the network technician that got to install and configure the switches and routers. During this time, we started going away from T1 connections and using 1 gig fiber WAN connections. Because of this and being introduced to firewalls, load balancing and other more advanced concepts, I decided to go for my CCNP. It has just helped me to do my job better. Now that the CCNA concentrations are out, I find my self going back to those, just so I can do my job better. Now that I am the Sr. engineer, I am also finding my self in design situations where a CCDA would be helpfull. My goal is to do all ccna concentrations and CCDA and possibly to CCSP & CCNP Wireless. I may even do CCVP if Voice ever hits our environment.
