There is nothing wrong in knowing more about your religion. One must be aware of all that was written in ancient literature. But no one has right to take it too far. You can suggest people to read Gita but can you force them to do so? Karnataka education minister wants to make it compulsary in schools. He says "he Bhagavad Gita is like the Sun. I think that it is the duty of every Indian to respect the Bhagvad Gita like they respect other elements surrounding them. I strongly feel that if someone does not respect it, they have no place in India. They should leave the country and settle abroad," What do you think about this ?
Kavitha...As far as Including Geeta as a part of curriculum is concerned I don't See any harm in that..Because Geet should not be seen as a book of particular religion because it teached purely human values and ethics..But yes at the same time it should not be made compulsory in curriculum..though it can be on voluntary basis..during extra curriculum hours or on holidays those who are intereseted can participate in classrooms of Geeta Teaching...What do you think...?
Kavithaji,
Geetha teach about every aspect of life and the spiritual knowledge required for every human. But keeping the Geetha in Curriculam leads to complications in our Demacratic country. Other religion people they never accept it,though it is teaching all the Moral Values.Neha singh wrote that " Hiduism is a way of Life- Not a rigid religion" But Geetha is purely based on Hindu mythology.Christian's will say tat Jesus is only God and Bible speak about all which is there in Geetha. We cannot enforce the law to impose such a religious texts in curriculam. We are not so wise and broad minded. Otherwise these conflicts between the religions will never happen. "Mera Bharath Mahaan". Happy Independence Day to all Indians.

Norway killer's pro-Hindutva rant has Sangh squirming
TNN Jul 27, 2011, 12.34am IST
NEW DELHI: Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik's ringing endorsement of Hindutva and Hindu nationalists has left saffron leaders embarrassed.
Ram Madhav of RSS called it "motivated propaganda", while VHP's Vinod Bansal insisted that his manifesto, in which he has praised Hindu nationalists, "made no sense". However, BJP MP B P Singhal was quoted as saying that the killer's ideas were not wrong but his methods were.
In his over 1,500-page manifesto titled "2083: A European Declaration of Independence", Breivik talks of Hindutva elements as allies and urges them to fight shoulder to shoulder with his knights. His mission: To stem the spread of Islam in Europe. That India occupies a large part of his perverse mindspace is clear from the 100 pages he dedicates to the country. He comes out in support of "sanatana dharma movements and Indian nationalists in general". He provides the BJP, RSS and ABVP websites as references for more information. The Indian government, he claims, should have insisted on a name change of the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan, because they were named after the Hindus who "were massacred" there. Modern India, he says, "white washed this Hindu genocide", which he likens to "Auschwitz". Breivik quotes an NCERT directive of 1982 (which actually shows India embracing its multicultural identity) to say he is outraged that it stipulates, "characterization of the medieval period as a time of conflict between Hindus and Moslems is forbidden".
Reacting to Breivik's rant, Ram Madhav, senior RSS leader, said: " His entire so-called manifesto quotes conservative writers from both sides of the Atlantic. Ideological similarities have been drawn from all over, so to say suddenly that it is linked to Indian nationalists or Hindutva is simply motivated propaganda."
The VHP's Vinod Bansal said: "Most of what he has to say makes no sense, except the bit about appeasing Muslims is right. Basically, the UPA government under Sonia Gandhi has been indulging in it and also framing policies in such a way that the whole country is converted to Christianity."
Hindus, Breivik says, have been victims of the greatest historical "genocide" by waves of Islamic jihad.
He quotes right-wing historian KS Lal to argue his point. The most important part of this document is his cherry-picking of history and religion to come to some terribly distorted conclusions.
Breivik claims he wrote several emails and also used Facebook to reach out to people in India. It is possible that he sent his manifesto to the addresses he farmed ahead of the massacre.
Then the school will be called as hindu " Madarsa" and there will be hue and cry from non hindus. Instead, if the constitution is changed and India is declared as hindu state and not a secular state. Our's is social, secular democratic state. So it is highly impossible. One can read it at home and preach publicly.
MS_Pi - A hindu man or women of the age 20 to 23 should have completed reading most of Ramayan and Gita. I have asked others (non hindus and hindus who haven't read gita or ramayan) about the time needed to read ramayan and gita - most of them said an average of 2 years. What I am trying to say is that you do not require much time to read these holy books. Now, look at the people in your office, town etc etc. Are they all behaving according to what ramayan and gita says? They all have read this. So, what is the point in introducing this in colleges/universities? Just for passing examination?
Not exactly Gita but principles of Gita as a Management Subject can be introduced. We have many 'management lessons' in Mahabharat, Ramayan or Gita (a part of Mahabharat). Similarly Vidura Neethi can also be introduced - but only as management subjects. To understand the lessons, one must complete +2, and therefore it can be introduced as a subject in Degree Classes.
Hello Kavith Shanker,Nothing wrong in teaching good things in school. This is applicable to either Gita, Bible and kuran. I feel teaching is an art and this should not be debated. It is very sad these thing we discuss without any logic. Hope everyone understand................................ K Rajagopalan.
