It is expected to help better market the Indian currency and indirectly the nation itself. But, it is just an aid and success entirely depends upon how the economy and currency move in the coming days. Also, rupee is too common a name and this will give a distinguished identity. On the funny side, I think there was an entry fee for the symbol contest. Was that an economically beneficial event?

The unique symbol given to indian rupee would give a distinctive character and identity to d indian currency and will reflect strength and global face of indian economy. it would also help currency to be distinguished from rupee or rupiah of other country like sri lanka, pakistan, nepal etc.. you r right that it will not be printed on currency but it would be included in the " unicode std."& MAJOR SCRIPTS OF THE WORLD TO ENSURE THAT IT IS EASILY DISPLAYED IN THE ELECTRONIC AND PRINTED MEDIA.
