The Drought and the Floods are the major problems of our country since many years, it was the BJP Government first declared about the concept of inter-connecting of all the rivers to avoid this issue along with creating more agricultural avenues for our farmers.  As they did considerable improvement about inter-connecting and promoting the National and State Highways and developed maximum road in India during their reign before the BJP came to the end of the Road!, there was also a viable concept of interconnecting the rivers from north to south which would surely improve our agricultural sector, many would earn their bread and it would help not only the poor but also at a whole the total contribution to the Indian economy from agricultural sector, when there were debates on TV channels, many MPs of Congress argued, that it was their initiative and that would be activated shortly etc., many are busy in installation of their statues on the cost of tax payers money and some are snoring? Who is truly accountable and where is an end for all this? Why the Government, the planning commission are not focusing on vital and viable projects which would contribute for the national income especially from the agricultural sector which is almost neglected in our "MERA BHAARATH MAHAAN"?

It is really difficult for me to answer this as I feel that it requires an understanding of the topography and of course basic engineering background. I have none!! The idea appeals to me but implementation depends on the government. are they geared infrastructurally to take on a project of such magnitude?? Do they have the man power (experts) who would be able to successfully execute it?? Does the government have the conviction and commitment in it to see the project to fruition??? I mean these are the hard questions that i would ask first ....

Thanks for the referral Sir...

Good Work Ardhendu.. I support you, I joined RSS at the age of 10 years. I am a true Indian.. unlike these people.

GQ is getting delayed due to land acquisition, utility shifting, corruption and land acquisition cases pending in courts , tree cutting etc. First 75% of the any project (whether it is building a house, building or road) is easier to complete, the tail end will be delayed and will cost almost as the initial phases of the project. As of today 99.7% of GQ is complete.

Disputes of sharing river water between the States have reached Courts! This requires "political will"! Now, China is said to have been building dams to harness "Brahmaputra"! Assam and Manipur, if this was allowed to complete, would have to seek water sharing from China! Before other neighbouring countries usurp our water, its time that our politicians seriously think of linking these rivers in the national interest!

Political will is required.  Do you believe that this Govt. has it. Even if it is taken up, it may not be completed even after 50 years.  Segmenting the project to each state and complete the project in a stipulated time.  Mr. Vajpayee did it. He wanted to connect all metros with "Golden Quadrilater".  More than 80% of work, he could complete during his tenure.  To complete the unfinished 20% of work, UPA took six years yet it is incomplete.  Everything is possible if you have the will.  At the same time we need to look at the other side of the coin.  The Cons of the project.  They have also to be addressed  before taking up this project.  Indians are good planners, Americans are good at implementation. Now you can find the difference of it.

I remember my father telling me that a draft plan and report was prepared in during mid 60's to conect all the rivers in India, by one Dr. K.L Rao who is an eminent scientist. If I am not wrong he was Union Minister for irrigation in Nehru's cabinet. It was suggested in the report to link all the rivers so that floods can be avoided, more land can be irrigated, water is available to every region in India. It was shelved for unknown reasons.

Dear Mr Pande,

It is a good idea to connect some rivers and better canal networks, yet  before embarking on such projects we need to protect our rivers from decay & extinction, and need to develop a sense of belonging with our natural and national assets.

No city repeat no city in this country has adequacy of installed capacity in sewerage treatment. The polluting industries are allowed to use countries natural resources without a blink saving millions for their owners and of course the cheaply available entrusted custodians, at huge cost to billions of powerless souls be it human or animals. The icing on cake being huge sums of money is allocated for doing the same job from exchequers pocket time and again yet no one from these taxpayers feel concerned as earning repeat earning somehow is of prime importance and not valuing what they earned else there would be concern for where it gets wasted.

Well, you are very right in saying that the project is 2 complex and BJP deserves the credit for "HIGHLIGHTING" the project, but than we are still lost due to absence of political will.

most of us will accept that this is a vital project for country whose economy has been based on irrigation for past several years.

for example I belong to MP, here Narmda is regarded as the Ganga of Satpura , it has surpulous water and Sardar Sarovar has added to its water capacity on the other hand we have Kshipra , which is completely dried out due to variouse reason. Now I don't now sceintific and eclogical implementation of it but it is a general feeling in our region  that it should be done. and there are rumours that BJP goverment is keen on it as both the originate in MP

Moreover the real problem still is political will as we sa in Krishna Godavary river dispute and alos we dont know what the religouse leaders have to say on it. Because they can realy ignite things with one speech

Overall nice project and my suggetion is instead of blaming on goverment and arguing like a tipical Indian why dont we kick start a campaign on internet itself , I am in whenever you all want

My apologies if I have heart any one in connection to prject

Well I think its an ambitious project & like Makrand said, its too complex to be understood by a layman.

Though this has been envisaged long back, BJP has got the credit for highlighting the project.

If done successfully, could boost the agriculture production & per-capita income of farmers manifold apart from solving issues like floods & drought.

But its often doubted with what India has viz a viz financial & other resources (more than 100 bn $ are needed), also there are some very serious environmental issues that has not been answered. Bangladesh has some very severe objections.

Still I believe, like what we have seen in Gujrat, optimum use of water resources (Narmda), such models can also pave us new vistas.

Thanks sir for the referral.

Thanks makrand, you read the debate very consciously, as one day the indian railways, the national highways were designed and today they are connected, if the ruling government wants to do something to the poor, deprived and especially to contribute in the agricultural sector, it is both the grate and high time to think about it.

thank you dear for ur feedback!!

Sounds pretty nice as a concept. If implemented would solve most problems our country is facing.
