Sports have changed in nature all over the world and in India as well. Gone are the days of govt protection and encouragement to the sportsperson. Today successful sportsperson in India are those who have rose to the challenge on their own, creating fund for themselves and managing all affairs by themselves. Govt contribution in raising the level of sports has been marred by absolute politicisation of all sports bodies. Even the medal winner olympians of last year were not from any govt run sporting organisation, leave aside the example of Tendulkar,Leander,Mahesh,Sania,Saina and the likes. In such situation is it justified that govt should spend monsterous amount in organising Commonwealth games?

Dear Bhavesh,

It does not make any great difference to the Government as far as thousands of crores of rupees can be manipulated, in the name of "preparing for the Games", straight into their pockets or hidden bank accounts, outside the country.

But, surely enough, India can still do better performance wise at least in the events like Commonwealth Games, only because there is not much competition as the most of the Common Wealth Countries are not sending their best teams forward to participate.

So if you will judge the performance in terms of medals, India may still be getting lots of medals there, but at the level of actual improvement in performance, still, much, may be left to be desired.

Thanks & Regards.

While there is need to end corruption in sports, I think, because of commonwealth, India's sports infrastructure will improve. Also some focus will be shifted from cricket to other sports which can reduce corruption to an extent as every decision taken by sports authority will be followed by media.

And if govt. manage to manage the event effectively it can not only increase foreign exchange but can also generate money for itself apart from improving city's infrastructure.

It is not the question of holding and not holding in terms of our performance. The things is, our country has still got lot of talents hidden in the corners of our remote villages who are no less competent than any international athlete. But the problem is, they don't get opportunity neither chance. Our country's every system has become corrupted today. Few people with real talents get chance and rest others get lost without any recognition. Normally we can see athletes with good contacts or wealthy family get chance. Why..??? Isn't that another sign of corruption ???

So, merely by organizing the commonwealth games in our country won't solve the problem. First we have to improve our present condition. Then we can win everywhere.
