RSS which is a format for syndicating news and the content of news-like sites, including major news sites like Wired. Once information about each item is in RSS format, an RSS-aware program can check the feed for changes and react to the changes in an appropriate way. RSS-aware programs called news aggregators are popular in the weblogging community. Many weblogs make content available in RSS. A news aggregator can help you keep up with all your favorite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them.

The RSS was found by former Google executive and the co-founder/CEO of RSS service Feedburner Dick Costolo who is now Twitter’s new COO.  Costolo, who sold Feedburner to Google for $100 million in 2007, left Google in July. He was looking to start a new company by himself, but then Twitter came in and grabbed him.

With twitter's emergence it is said that RSS is dead and Twitter is the new messaging protocol bus, or something to that effect, people are using RSS very less these days.

Costolo, who is also an early Twitter investor, is someone who has actual experience building scalable infrastructures, which Twitter badly needs. Twitter being so much popular these days hasn't come up with any new features in the recent past, and it seems to have regular downtime. In this regard Twitter's inability to build features and keep the service live is a serious competitive disadvantage. In this regard they have taken Costolo into twitter. it is seen that in recent days they are hiring many people to make Twitter even a bigger brand that it is.

Seriously how many of you still click on that orange(RSS) button on your screen.....What do you think is RSS dead? or it still has something left in it?

In a website, only RSS is responsible for blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. It includes full or summarized text, plus meta data such as publishing dates and authorship. In the absence of the different uses of RSS, a complete website will be dead. Though, after entering a website, very few people click on RSS option, it doesn't conclude RSS is dead. But not so much used.....
