presenting skill is evaluated on the basis of what your talking is not important and how your talking is very important. The first and the foremost thing is focus. Focus is followed by meticulous planning and planning is possible only with your involvement. Your involvement will guide u to choose the best among the alternatives.
Hi Shankar, the answer to your question lies in beautiful eglish proverb practice makes the man perfect. And the best person to guide you about the topic of presentation will be your senior or the concerned professor if you are a student. Dont hesitate to ask for help. Take initiative to present the topic whenever there is an opportunity for a presentation. Do go through the objection handling part of the presentation topic thouroughly if there is any information material on the same or take help of a senior. There will be fear in your mind till you give your first presentation. I can tell you from my experience that one of the best ways to over come this fear is to declare boldly infront of the audience about your nervousness. The audience will be with you. You need to do this may be once or twice. After a couple of presentations you will become bold and gain a lot of confidence. I wish you all the best.
1. Take a class. Ask your employer if they will offer one through their training department or bring in an outside program. If they aren’t receptive to the idea, check out your local college as most offer refresher classes.
2. Join an organization dedicated to improving your public speaking skills.
You get opportunity to observe world class speakers with their international experience of presentation
3. Practice, practice, and then practice a little more. If you have a speech to deliver, you should know it start to finish. Practice until you are comfortable with the material and it just rolls off your tongue.
4. Video tape your practice sessions. Most people hate to see themselves on TV, so that makes this especially difficult – but extremely effective. If you are serious about mastering public speaking, you need to see yourself as others see you. Watching yourself deliver a speech will help you determine your strengths and show you where you still need improvement. You’ll also get an opportunity to see that you’re probably not as bad as you think!
5. Select topics that you are knowledgeable or passionate about. It’s much easier to be engaging and comfortable when speaking about something you are experience in or have a lot of energy around. Stick to your strengths and you’ll quickly build your confidence.
6. Speak at every opportunity. Speaking is like exercising a muscle, the more you use it, the better developed it becomes. So raise your hand the next time an opportunity arises – in all likelihood, you’ll be the only one.
7. Relax and remember that people came to see YOU. Chances are good that you are way more critical of yourself than anyone else. So take a deep breath and remember that you have something the audience wants – information – because that is where they are going to focus most of their attention.
Before going to present something before a section of audience, try to list out the possible queries, if not if someone pose a question you will be get stuck. Its awkward situation for you. Master content of the subject you are going to present. Use PPT. Dont read it, explain the concept around the point you are making. No need to practice before a mirror. Mirror is your own replica the real situation is different. Keep cool. Go on exercise in your mind on the subject and the presentation.
I am a visiting faculty for MBA students in a distance education centre. On the day of my first session, I was little bit nervous to speak before audience of nearly 200 students. Half of them are elder than me. I just took 5 minutes time to get onto dais, maintain my cool and start talking on the subject. After sometime, I am settled to the environment and go on lecturing as if I am talking to my friends.
Scope for improvement is always there, in all field where you are interested. To make presentation more interesting & effective, use all possible technological techniques such as computer, slides, video if required to prove your concept etc. Audio-video effect is best liked by all. Appropriate use of these will help your illustration more clear to audience & make them interesting .It is all to be planned & rehearsed.
It is all , the way you use these. Recently, there was a presentation based on an audio-visual effect, on life of Buddha in Hong kong. Even though, we know the life of Siddartha. The facts were presented made me mesmerized. Such a good combination of light, audio , video effect, material management made me feel enthralled. Improve your skill by using audio, visual effects adequately to keep the audience in tact.
1. First be clear about the concept of your presentation.
2. Prepare your part well and design a rough speech so that you are not at loss of words when you speak.
3. Prepare a bit more than you intend to speak , because possibility of forgetting things is always there.
4. Focus and practice in front of mirror if you are not confident.
