I am not Indian so I am not in a position to judge the political scenario in India. However, I do read the news and follow up on interesting stuff. I still believe the situation can' t be that bad where people will say there is no good or true political leader in India. All countries go through this phase some time or the other. One must stop to consider that India has the second highest population in the world and it will never be easy to manage. I would not deny there will be unscrupulous politicians but lets us not judge all by the wrong doings of some. Think about the most powerful country in the world ........think about the crticisms that Bush got.
This is only my opinion.
In our country, several numbers of political parties (old or new) are formulated some of which Indian Congress, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), Janta Dal (U) (JDU) and Shiv Sena are having criminal leaders as per crime bureau (copy attached) who are seated in the parliament. If these criminals are seated in the parliament, then, how they can make the good policies for the development to the public of the country. Even our Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not showing the good performance in the politics as per his experience and qualification. In his government, there are corruption, injustice, poverty, unemployment, inflation, privatization of education without govt control, and criminal leaders in parliament being continuously on the top position in the country. Even though he is a good economist where in his tenure a rich becoming richer and poor becoming poorer. Is this the philosophy of a good economist? Several illegal rules have been prepared under his tenure, for example, the extension of age retirement in the educational institutions /Universities. In our India the average life expectancy is 62 years where his Govt has increased the age of retirement 65 years. Is not this unjustified, funny and ridiculous. It is a death blow for the educated unemployed youth. As per Indian constitution, the age of retirement is 60 years only (copy attached). Is not this the rights of educated unemployed youths as per Indian constitution? What does mean of human rights (remarks to Chairperson of human rights commission, Chief Justice of India, Supreme Court). They are destroying our Indian constitution. They are destroying the rights of the youths of the country and pushing the educated unemployed youths on the road. The educated old people have the old thinking, for example, they are fighting to establish a Temple (Mandir)/Mosque (Masjid) at a place and pushing the coming generation towards the more fossilized system. If they established their religious place at the said place how will it lead to development of our country and beneficial to the poor people need to be addressed? It should be noted that Dr Manmohan Singh is not elected by the public in any constituency of the country, then, how he has holding the position of prime minister of the country. However, he has doctor of philosophy degree, what does mean of philosophy (remarks to Oxford University, London). In his tenure, education is becoming business. If the businessmen, political leaders or their relatives are making the business from the education system, then, what does mean of education need to be addressed (remarks to HRD Union Minister. In our India, politics is becoming family system. It is dangerous to the democracy. It should be stop immediately. The leaders should be the well educated person from the well reputed institute and having the guts of knowledge about the development of the country rather than to fillup his/her pockets/ chairs. Criminals or their relatives are entering the politics. These criminals are interrupting during the parliament session for the public development policies. Therefore, it is essential to cancel the registration of political parties which are having criminals and businessmen in their respective parties.
Dr. Abdul Kalaam and Baba Ramdev are true visionaries..!! But talking about a political leader.. I must say we need to define what do we mean by a TRUE leader.. who shows results.. who brings about change in indo-pak relations.. who can control terrorism.. who can do something to boost education everywhere in India.. who can make our system corruption free.. or who can play politically with rest of the nations to develop infrastructure, etc, etc..
We can't expect al changes coming by a single leader.. so what I believe is there is a TRUE leader in each and every one of us.. If we are ready to bring the change to our nation.. we might have a True India leading the world..!!
Vande Matram!!
Political will is considered crucial for progress of a country. When he is given power, he can transform the country. I do not approve of how PVN functioned as Prime Minister but he had the political will to bring Manmohan Singh as Finance Minister. The result we all see today.
Therefore, when we say true political leader - we mean a leader with political will to take the country towards progress. We are not speaking about his weaknesses but his strength to take the country forward. That way, I see many persons both a the state and central government. They may be corrupt but they can lead the executive/legislature towards adopting progressive policies. I can name many in the central government. Sonia Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee (ladies first), Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee, Kapil Sibal, Chidambaram... the list will go on.
Every human has his/her weakness. No one is perfect. If we allow him or her to work in strength area and not weakness area, there will be progress and more productivity. Unfortunately, we have a tendency to seek weakness in a leader than strength.
Mr Dikshit, Being bachelor is not true reason for being serviceable. If you think so why not you also remain bachelor to serve country. mahatma gandhi should not have married and mahatma Buddha wasted his life. and also dont you think then Ram was not good enough to serve India. And Krishna he had millions of Gopikas, how could he rule India. Als..
Your question itself is a paradox. Can you tell me "true" in true sense. When you mentioned "true political leader", you probably had in mind leaders such as "Mahatma Gandhi", "Dadabhai Naoroji", etc. If you are seeking parallel in the modern times, equating their stature, there is none.
In the modern times, you can take Dr. Abdul Kalam as the self-less, Nationalist Leader, who had instilled confidence in the younger minds. Dr. Manmohan Singh, in true sense, has a tremendous vision, but he is in the midst of his political mentors, who possess greater skills in politiking than him. Therefore, he can not all the time be acting in a coercive and persuasive manner to convert his point of view into action. Hence, he is rated 3 in the 5-point scale.
Atalji and Dr Kalam, I found true leader and visionary. They realy wanted to do something for the country. Dr Manmohan Singh is also good and visionary but his choice really does not reflect in his decisions. Narendra Modi is also coming up.
In future also we will get some good young leaders after their certain life in politics. Indian politics is not that worst as we seen in our movies, sometime it happens in Bihar, but Bihar, UP, Westr Bengal and Asam can not represent whole country.
